Vincent J. Stoker is a young 31 year old photographer, winner of our contest « Photography and its Purpose ». He will exhibit in 2011 his series entitled “Heterotopia” at the Alain Gutharc Gallery, in Paris. That work on ruins is surrounded by a true graphic and intellectual coherence coming at a time when architectural photography is fashionable. What shall probably make all the difference to his artistic career is the quality of his proposal coupled with an incredible energy.

Shawn Michelle Smith offers us a multifaceted view of vernacular photography through her artistic reinterpretations and thought provoking writings. Currently teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she shares with us how she looks at and plays with both personal and public images that reflect America’s complex culture of yesterday and today.

Since Arno Raphael Minkkinen’s work is of such a corporal nature, I was delighted but not entirely surprised when I noticed the relationship between each of our initials. This quirky connection makes for a fun title, but doesn’t accurately represent the following interview. Nick Veasey makes powerful images thanks to a process far from traditional photography: the x-ray. This English artist presents fascinating and unique photographs, in the sense that an image appears on a light-sensitive negative. For many years, he has used this particular technique to make “alternative” images for advertisements, nonetheless, he continues to passionately explore more personal themes and subjects that intrigue him.

Heralding in the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, as a part of exhibition “Cannes fait le mur” that will take place until 12th July at Cannes, giant portraits of world renowned celebrities decorate the city of Cannes. These prestigious clichés were taken by one of the most sought after photographers of the 7th art, Lorenzo Agius, for the agency Contour, of Getty Images. He agreed to give us the “behind the scenes” interview.

Though his photographic path began with explorations of identity, memory, people and place, his career has come to focus on environmentalism. Currently living and working in Norway, Carll shares with us his reflections on the meaning in his photographs and his art’s dedication to advocating for nature consciousness.
